Spinal Cord Injury Women Questionnaire (SCIWQ)

Description: A non-standardized survey evaluating different aspects of sexuality [1].

Format: 104 items examining aspects of sexuality such as sexual experience, interest, and desire, arousal and satisfaction with sexual life, sexual self-confidence, sexual activity and behaviour, consequences and changes in sexual life after injury, sexual information and counseling, and relationship issues. Items are divided into 3 parts:

  1. SCIWQ-1 (34 items), which is completed by all participants regardless of sexual activity after their injury
  2. SCIWQ-2 (30 items), which is completed only by women who are sexually active after their injury
  3. SCIWQ-3 (40 items), which is completed only by women who are married/living with a partner, or have a stable partner relationship for more than 6 months.

Scoring: Categorical data can be obtained from this questionnaire.

Psychometrics for SCI: None reported.

Languages: Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Icelandic.

QoL Concept: The SCIWQ measures sexual experience and satisfaction, which correspond to Boxes C (HrQoL, achievements) and E (subjective well-being; affect) of Dijker’s Model.
