International Index of Erectile Function 5 (IIEF-5)

Description: An abridged 5-item version of the 15-item International Index of Erectile Function, which is a condition measure of erectile functioning [1].

Format: 5 items.

Scoring: Each IIEF-5 item is scored on a 5-point ordinal scale, with lower values representing poorer sexual function. Possible scores for the IIEF-5 range from 5 to 25. In addition, erectile dysfunction (ED) severity can be classified into the following 5 categories based on IIEF-5 scores: severe (scores 5-7), moderate (scores 8-11), mild to moderate (scores 12-16), mild (scores 17-21), and no ED (scores 22-25).

Administration and Burden: Self-administered.

Psychometrics for SCI:Not available.

Languages: English, German, Hungarian, French, Polish.

QoL Concept: This is a measure of erectile functioning, which corresponds to Boxes B (societal standards and priorities) and C (HrQoL, achievements) of Dijker’s Model.
